Organ donation support through sport

Through our global reach of the Salesforce Ohana via its employees and their families, partners and customers we aim to bring a number of fitness based events throughout the year that will enable us to raise awareness of organ donation, raise our own fitness levels and at the same time have some fun.

ABOUT

The DonateMySport is a Volunteering initiative brought to you by Salesforce with its key aim to educate the public on the principles of organ donation and to highlight the worldwide shortage of donor organs. All around the world, there are thousands of people alive today, unified by a common bond. Some owe their lives to living donors, who are family members or friends, others to the generosity of perfect strangers, organ and tissue donors driven by the desire to give life to others after their death. The need for an urgent or life-saving transplant knows no boundaries – it affects people regardless of their gender, age, religion or ethnicity.

The Salesforce 1:1:1 integrated philanthropy model encourages its employees to make a difference in the communities where they live and work. The DonateMySport is one of these Initiatives and has been organised by salesforce employees who are passionate about raising the awareness of Organ Donation as well as how sport helps the recovery process of people that have had lifesaving organ transplantation.

OUR TARGETS

We have some ambitious targets for the Organ Donation Awareness Week.

We are aiming to reach:

  • Over 1,000 conversations with loved regarding your wishes to organ donate
  • Over 2,500 people to donate their sport
  • Over 10,000 mentions on social media of #DonateMySport
  • £20,000 of donations through our JustGiving Page, Employee salary deductions as well as through Salesforce employee donation match scheme.
With your support, we are sure we can smash these!

The prime role of the Irish Kidney Association is to support patients and their families effected by end stage kidney disease and are either being treated by dialysis or have a working kidney transplant. By providing information on kidney diseases, associated medical scenarios and social benefits and entitlements, the IKA helps patients and families live as normal a life as possible, given the presence of the kidney related illness. As the only organisation representing the views of Irish kidney patients, the IKA continually lobbies on their behalf. This ongoing activity covers a wide variety of areas, including government departments, the HSE, hospitals, renal units and many other agencies. By joining with other organisations, the IKA helps in furthering the aims of all patients with chronic illness and improving their quality of life.

Transdia Sport Germany ev is founding member of the european transplant and dialysis sports federation and the world transplant games federation In 1982, the association was founded as a DSN (German Sport Association for Kidney Transplant) in Husum. With the change of name in the German sports association for organs transplanted in 1997, the accession of "non-kidney patients" was taken into account. Since 2005, the association is now called TransDia. By changing the name and logo, we have integrated the dialysis patients into our association. Our members come from all over Germany and are transplanted (heart, liver, kidney, lung, etc.) and dialysis patients as well as their relatives or other people connected with the subject. Since 1980, the German Championships have been held every year. They take place at varying locations all over Germany. Since 2004, we have also been offering transplantation and dialysis patients from our German-speaking neighboring countries (South Tyrol, Switzerland, Austria).

Swisstransplant is the Swiss National Foundation for Organ Donation and Transplantation. On behalf of the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) it is responsible, as the national office, for the allocation of organs to recipients in accordance with the applicable law, and is in charge of the corresponding waiting list. It organizes at a national level all organ allocation activities and works closely with allocation organizations abroad. Furthermore, Swisstransplant regularly compiles relevant statistical data on the numbers of organ donors, transplants and waiting times..

The charities that we are supporting as part of the DonateMySport Initiative are member countries in the World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF). WTGF’s principle aim is to raise public awareness of the benefits of organ donation by demonstrating the health benefits that can be achieved through physical activities and sport after organ transplantation. WTGF wishes to educate the public about organ donation principles and to highlight the worldwide shortage of donor organs for transplantation.

THANK YOU

Across the world hundreds of thousands of people wait for a life-saving transplant. By leveraging the Salesforce Ohana and through getting involved in DonateMySport we will be able to raise the importance of organ donation as well as encourage more people to sign up on the organ donor register.
